Wow! The first week of camp flew by! We had so much fun this past week! We ended the week with a Digital Arts field trip to the Apple Store at the Galleria Mall. Amazing Race Sports finally had their turn to jump at SkyZone. Discovery Camps had a great Free Time Friday at the pool and many campers practiced jumping into the deep end. Discovery campers also treated their families to an awesome Discovery Showcase this afternoon. Discovery 3 and 4 campers were special guests of Explore and More this morning at Canalside for their exciting announcement about the West Herr donation. Master Chef made amazing French toast Roll-Ups. Wilderness is getting ready for their tent sleepover tonight. Before they have their cookout, they are going hiking to Glen Falls. We hope everyone has a wonderful weekend and we'll be all ready to see everyone Monday morning. We will have camp on Monday, July 3rd. Camp is closed on Tuesday, July 4th.
Summer Adventure is in full swing at Elmwood Franklin Summer Camp. Everyday Discovery campers move between a number of "special" classes, such as music, science, sports, spanish, and yoga and movement. Campers also spend time in our craft room. Discovery 5, 6, and 7 swim every morning, spending time in formal lesson groups and having free time in the pool. Today Discovery 3, 4 and 5 went to Bounce Magic. OnStage! campers participated in a master class on accents and dialects. Master Chef made hummus this morning and added different spices and flavoring to again test for favorites. Today they added oregano, garlic, lemon zest, and olives to name just a few. This afternoon campers made homemade guacamole, cucumber salsa, traditional salsa, and black bean and corn salsa. Amazing Race Sports campers had a pipeline challenge, played pillow polo, and had a tic-tac-toe relay. Digital Arts worked more on claymation today using a green screen, they used editing and film software, and worked on coding using a program called Turtleart. Wilderness Explorers had a fire-building competition. We are looking forward to tomorrow for the Discovery Show at 3:15pm in the Johnston Theatre and for the Wilderness tent campout here at EFS.
The sun is back... and so is camp! This morning Master Chef baked their bread. They then made some modifications to yesterday's strawberry jam. Campers made 7 different strawberry jams using lime, lemon, balsamic vinegar, orange, thyme, mint, and lavender. After taste-testing all on their freshly baked bread, campers chose their favorite to bring home. Be sure to let us know what you think! In the afternoon they worked together to make strawberry and cream scones with an orange glaze.
Digital Arts camp worked on clay animation projects and designed new EFS Summer Camp logos. Wilderness Explorers grilled pizzas and pancakes. This afternoon they walked over to Hoyt Lake and did some fishing. Amazing Race Sports played 3 pin soccer, capture the flag, and had relay races. OnStage! had their first day of classes featuring set design, voice, costume design, dance, and stage direction. Discovery campers went to the pool and enjoyed Spanish and music classes and our new dance and movement classes. Everyone swam this morning and Discovery 6 went to Sky Zone. Discovery and Explorer Campers are enjoying swimming at our new location this summer, UB South Campus. The pool is larger and we are able to spread out our lesson groups. We are also able to accommodate our Discovery groups everyday.
Although the day began with strong rain and hail, the fun at EFS Summer Camp continued. Master Chef designed their own aprons this morning and then hit the kitchen to bake bread and use the strawberries they picked yesterday in homemade shortcake. Amazing Race Sports played tag games before heading to the pool and in the afternoon played Castle Ball. Discovery groups swam this morning perfecting front and back floats. Discovery 7 group went for a fun afternoon at SkyZone. In science today Discovery groups learned that parrot fish excrete sand, and then they worked on sand paintings. Discovery groups also began yoga and movement classes. Wilderness had to postpone their kayaking trip, but had some new adventure here learning to whittle. Digital Arts worked on animation today and even used their lunches for a stop-animation project. OnStage! campers received their roles for next week's production. There was excitement in the air as it was revealed who will be The Cat in the Hat and who will be Horton...
If your child is scheduled for a SkyZone field trip this week, please contact SkyZone to ensure that your child's permission waiver is up to date. As of May, SkyZone changed the waivers and a new one needs to be on file in order for your child to jump.
And we're off.... Day one of Elmwood Franklin Summer Camp began smoothly with 208 campers this morning. Thank you to everyone for a great drop off this morning. Discovery groups already started with swimming lessons this morning. Master Chef Camp was in the kitchen this morning making Rice Krispie treats and then they were off to the farm for strawberry picking. Wilderness campers already made their own campfires. OnStage! held auditions this afternoon for next week's production of Seussical, Jr. Amazing Race Sports had three-legged races and played Mission Impossible, as well as other mini challenges. Digital Arts learned about 3D printing and 3D models today. We are so excited for a fabulous summer!
