Week 1 of EFS Summer Camp is officially in the books. We finished the week with our last trip to the zoo. This morning Discovery 3 & 4 campers went off before the heat took over. They were thrilled to see the rhino, the gorillas, and the meerkats. Discovery 5, 6, & 7 had some fun free-time Friday at the pool. Discovery 5 and 7 baked their own animal crackers in the camp kitchen. Science classes this afternoon made their own oobleck. Wilderness campers went off for a hike in the Erie County Forest and then returned to camp to spend the night outside in the yard. They put up their own tents this morning in preparation for their overnight trip to Letchworth next week. Fitness Frenzy campers finished their week with some jumprope fitness, tag games, swimming, and castle ball. Digital Arts wrapped up their week with architecture blueprints. We are so proud of our Digital Arts campers who designed programs for next week's OnStage! production of Oliver. We love to see campers supporting other campers! We had a fantastic first week of camp and know the best days are still to come!
The sun came out for our Discovery 5 and 7 trip to the zoo. They had a blast seeing some of their favorite animals. It was a warm day and they celebrated their return to camp with freezie pops. Discovery 3 & 4 made their animal masks and tambourines this morning. In science classes today Discovery campers made their own fire extinguishers, and in gym they played Treasure. Discovery 3 & 4 had a great time playing Freeze Dance. Master chef campers frosted their pound cakes with the lemon glaze and learned how to emulsify liquids to make a strawberry balsamic salad dressing. This afternoon campers had a crepe challenge. OnStage! campers explored sense memory today. They ate "gruel" and lemons to remember the tastes and be "in character" for next week's production of Oliver! Fitness Frenzy Campers played tic tac toe fitness, circle pin bowling, and mission impossible. Digital Arts campers explored claymation and green screen filming. This afternoon they had a drone demonstration and learned about drone photography. We can't believe that tomorrow is already Friday.
Summer Camp sweatshirts are now available for purchase. The sweatshirts are $35 or two for $50. We have youth and adult sizes in pink, light gray, and charcoal gray. Stop at the front desk to get yours today.
It was a rainy camp day. Luckily, most groups had some playground time before the rain began. Discovery groups were joined by Wilderness and Sports for some time at the pool this morning. Digital Arts camp was still able to go to the Apple Store for their field trip on movie making. Fitness Frenzy camp was off to Master Khechen for a private beginner martial arts class. This morning their fitness activities included yoga as well as plank and wall sit challenges. Master Chef created a strawberry balsamic reduction and made homemade strawberry jam. This afternoon they made a strawberry pound cake with a lemon glaze. Discovery 3 and 4 also participated in cooking and baked homemade animal crackers. Additionally, they are hard at work on a lion craft. Discovery 5 made their animal mask craft and completed a science experiment with water and plastic baggies. Be sure to ask your camper about the pencil going through the baggie. Discovery 7 learned about endangered animals in the United States. Discovery 6 also had cooking class this morning and made their own homemade animal crackers. Wilderness campers learned about knife safety and whittled this afternoon. We are having so much in Week 1!
The fun continues at Day 2 of Elmwood Franklin Summer Camp! This morning Discovery campers swam along with the group from Digital Arts. Discovery 6 went off for an afternoon at the Buffalo Zoo, while our Wilderness campers went fishing, and Discovery 3 & 4 ran through the sprinkler. What a great summer day! Master chefs prepped all of their strawberries that were picked yesterday and made some delicious strawberry shortcake! In Science today Discovery campers explored heat and pressure with a fun balloon and bottle experiment. In music class they made percussion instruments. Fitness Frenzy played ultimate frisbee, had a kickball game against Master Chef, climbed the rock wall for time, and had a plank challenge competition. Digital Arts campers worked on some complex 3D printing projects, and made a fantastic stop motion movie while at the pool. OnStage! campers received their parts for Oliver Jr. and now rehearsals are in full swing. A note to Discovery 7 parents that the field trip to the zoo that was scheduled for tomorrow has been moved to Thursday. Fitness Frenzy and Digital Arts field trips will still take place tomorrow. Think Fun!
