A fun time was had by all Discovery swimmers this morning at Free-Time Friday. Everyone loves swimming at the pool. We are so lucky to take our 5, 6, and 7 year olds for a daily swimming lesson. The skill improvement and the increased comfort level of the campers in the water is amazing to see everyday.
Discovery 3 and 4s went to the Buffalo Science Museum this morning. Here's a photo of future paleontologists unearthing treasures.
Creative Tinkering camp has taken a whole new approach later in the week. Today campers built a "Fairy Mall". What began as a project for one grew into a whole group endeavor.

Discovery 5 was off to the Buffalo Science Museum this afternoon. They had a blast! Some of their favorite activities were the wind tunnel, making their own cars, and creating a news weather report on TV. Discovery 6 and 7 swam this morning and then went back to camp for more science fun. Coding went to a special computer exhibit at the Central Library. Wilderness and Backyard Games came to the pool for another big water polo match followed by a giant game of dominoes.
Creative Tinkering took an amazing trip to the Strong Museum, National Museum of Play. What a fun-filled and creative day they had.
Sports camp had a great afternoon playing backyard games at Riverworks. Wilderness spent time this morning kayaking in Tonawanda.
Discovery camps are loving Mad Scientist week. Discovery 5, 6, and 7 swam this morning. Discovery 3 & 4 did experiments today testing sinking and floating. Discovery 5 made their very own silly putty this afternoon. Discovery 6 made their binoculars for tomorrow's science scavenger hunt. Discovery 7 were working on experiments today with solids, liquids, and gases.
OnStage! had a wonderful opportunity this afternoon. Cindy Ripley from iTheatrics was here to present a Master class in theater skills. This was a special event for these campers.
Wilderness kicked off campfire cooking today. They prepared cinnamon rolls, cheese balls, and whole wheat crust pizza. They then cooked their food over the open fires they made. Campers even scraped the cedar shavings used as kindling for the campfires. Coding campers went on an QR code scavenger hunt this afternoon. Sports camp played whiffle ball, foot golf, and basketball shooting games, such as knock out, 21, and PIG. Discovery 3 & 4 made lava lamps. Discovery 5 played a great game of musical chairs but with hula hoops.
Creative Tinkering spent time today taking apart toys and old mechanical appliances that they collected. They spent time investigating the different motors and finding alternate ways to make the motors run. After they have tons of random pieces and parts they began creating art with the "treasures".
Discovery 6 & 7 went to the Buffalo Science Museum. What a great time during Mad Scientist week!
Camp Week 5 began with some much needed rain. Discovery campers headed off to the pool. Wilderness campers began their paper lantern projects. Coding campers wrote if-then loops and statements that manipulated animations that they made earlier in the morning. Creative Tinkering campers designed machines that could do three things at once: brush teeth, wash face, and comb hair. Sports camp kicked off Backyard Sports with four square, World Cup soccer, and Capture the Flag.
Today completed another great week at Elmwood Franklin Camp. We were all astounded by the talent of our OnStage! campers as they performed Shrek, Jr. Pictured above are two campers who have graced the Elmwood Franklin Camp stage for many years and today was their last performance. One of the best parts of our OnStage! camp experience is watching campers grow in age, talent, and character. Bravo!
Discovery groups all swam this morning. Discovery 3, 4, & 5 went to the Outer Harbor playground for some fun. Trash'n Fash'n finished this week with a fashion show for all families to enjoy. We loved hearing the campers speak of their creations and accessories. Robotics finished up their week with robot races down the camp hallways. Have a fantastic weekend!!
We have received good news about our Wilderness campers in Allegany. All is well and they are having a fabulous time. Today they were going on a hike and a cave tour. Discovery swam this morning and then Discovery 7 went off to play at the Outer Harbor Playground. Sports camp and Robotics went to the Bisons game this afternoon. What a great day for a game! OnStage completed their first full run-thru of Shrek, Jr. and made flags celebrating their individuality. Farm to Table made cherry crumble, fresh bread, and tomato sauce in the camp kitchen.
Today the farm came to Elmwood Franklin Summer Camp! What fun our Discovery campers had with all of their animal friends. Thank you to Kelkenberg Farms for bringing the Farm to Camp. Wilderness left this morning for three days in Allegany State Park. Farm to Table took a trip to the Farmers' Market this morning and brought back a bounty of fruits and vegetables. Later they made a delicious cucumber and blueberry salad. Extreme sports had some pool time in the morning and then went off to play disc golf in the afternoon.Trash'n Fash'n is busy preparing for their debut fashion show on Friday.
Another fabulous week has begun at camp! Discovery groups began at the pool today. They are excited for Farm Week. Sports began the week with some human hungry, hungry hippo games. They even introduced the fun to the Discovery 7 group. Farm to Table went to Zittles Farm today after a morning making lemon bars. Trash'n Fash'n took another trip to the Amvets store to stock up on more treasures. OnStage! took a field trip to Buffalo Barre for a yoga/ ballet class.
It was a busy Friday at camp. Discovery 6 and 7 swam this morning. Discovery 3 and 4 took a turn at Fairycakes this morning. Court sports spent some time playing floor hockey and then went over to the tennis courts for a few matches. Wilderness is busy setting up tents and getting ready for tonight's sleepover at camp. Trash'n Fash'n and Robotics were busy finishing up many of their projects from the week. We hope everyone enjoyed their week at camp. Looking forward to seeing many of you back on Monday!
